"Niman Ranch. Raised with Care." The quality is in the name. Niman Ranch, a long-time vendor of Harmony Coop, is a true partner in Growing Community Together. They offer a variety of meat products ranging from all-natural pork and beef to all natural uncured prosciutto - always with the guarantee of "livestock [that was raised] traditionally, humanely and sustainably to bring you the finest tasting meat in the world."
According to their website, Niman Ranch began production in the early 1970’s on an eleven-acre ranch just north of San Francisco. The cattle were raised using traditional, humane methods and given only wholesome all-natural feeds. Today, Niman Ranch has grown to include over 720 independent family farmers and ranchers across America.
Much like Houkada Farm in Frazee, MN - Niman Ranch has strict standards of care when raising their livestock. Their "humane raising protocols were developed under the guidance of renowned animal welfare expert, Dr. Temple Grandin, and are the strictest in the industry," states their website. Dr. Temple Grandin, a Professor of Animal Science at Colorado State University, is a consultant on animal behavior to the livestock industry.
In compliance with their "Never-Ever Natural" standard, their website says "Our animals are never given antibiotics or added hormones – EVER and are only fed a high-quality, 100% vegetarian diet." They continue to define their stamp of "Never-Ever Natural" to indicate that "every independent farmer and rancher who raises livestock for us practices sustainable agriculture. This means they not only take care of the land, but also allow livestock to engage in their natural behaviors, such as living outdoors and interacting with their litter mates. From years of experience, we know that it’s imperative to go above and beyond natural."

In November of 2017, Harmony initiated a Core Messaging Committee that was tasked to discover the message that we want to share with the community in 2018 - a message that would resonate in everything that we do. The committee kept circling around three words that meant a lot to us: Growth. Community. Inclusivity. When seeking Harmony's 2018 shareable and relate-able message with the lens that growth, community and inclusivity provided, we identified our 2018 core message of Growing Community Together.
The cooperative business model highlights community ownership. We currently have over 2500 community investors and we wouldn't be here without them. We want to celebrate the impact that our community has on our local, regional, and global communities. Right now, the products that Harmony Co-op is sharing with our community are combating climate change by providing funds to the Co+op Forest in Peru, helping build schools in Africa, providing stable jobs and maternal care for women around the world, and even keeping money flowing to the many local farmers who live in our community.
